Forza Horizon 6 Hakone Touge Guide

2026-05-23

Hakone Nanamagari Touge is one of five Touge Battle routes in Forza Horizon 6 — and the most demanding of the lot. A relentless chain of tight hairpin corners demands precise braking and clean lines rather than raw speed. It is also the final stage of the Series 1 Summer Gazoo Racer weekly challenge, requiring a first-place finish in the 2022 Toyota GR86.

What Is a Touge Battle?

Touge Battles are one-on-one races on Japan's mountain pass roads. Unlike festival circuit events, they are cat-and-mouse duels where a single mistake can hand the win to your opponent. Each route has a class ceiling — your car must be tuned at or below the limit to enter.

There are five Touge routes in FH6:

RouteClass CapCharacter
Mt. HarunaB 600Tight hairpins, slow and technical
Hakone NanamagariB 600Hardest route — back-to-back hairpins
Bandai AzumaA 700Fast and open, rewards smooth braking
Norikura SkylineS1 800Steep downhill, speed builds constantly
Arashiyama Takao ParkwayS1 800Forest roads, sharp blind corners

Where Is Hakone Nanamagari Touge?

The race is in the Nangan region, the southwest corner of the Japan map. Find the Irokawa Space Centre near the bottom-left of the map — the Touge sits directly north of it. You will see a dense cluster of tight, winding roads packed close together. That snake-like tangle of asphalt is Hakone Nanamagari.

From Tokyo City, head southwest past the main Nangan highway and continue toward the coast. The hairpin cluster appears before you reach the shoreline.

How to Unlock It

Touge races are not pre-marked on your map. To unlock Hakone Nanamagari:

  • Drive to the location — no waypoint required. Head to the winding roads north of the Irokawa Space Centre.
  • The moment your car touches the greyed-out asphalt, the route unlocks and the race icon appears on the map.
  • Discover Japan progress — make sure you have earned enough Stamps (Blue / Traveller tier) to explore the southwest region freely. If the roads are still locked, complete more events to raise your stamp level.

  • Gazoo Racer Weekly Challenge — Stage Order

Hakone Nanamagari is Stage 4 of the Gazoo Racer challenge. Stages must be completed in sequence — finishing a later stage early does not count:

  • Own the 2022 Toyota GR86 — buy from the Autoshow (~26,600 CR)
  • Earn 3 stars at Speed Zones — any Speed Zone on the map counts
  • Earn 6 Speed Skills (100 mph+) — see the Speed Skills guide for the fastest routes
  • Win Hakone Nanamagari Touge Race in the GR86 (first place required)
  • Important: The race win only counts after Stage 3 is complete. Winning the race before finishing Stage 3 does not register.

Class Restriction & Tuning the GR86

The race is capped at B 600. Your GR86 must sit at B 600 or below — one PI point over the limit locks you out at the start screen.

    What to prioritise:

  • Brakes first. Nanamagari is won in the braking zones. Upgrade brakes before adding power.
  • Suspension and weight reduction. Lighter cars with sharp turn-in beat heavier, more powerful builds on every hairpin.
  • Keep it grip-focused. A drift tune may look dramatic on the hairpins, but a tight grip setup is faster and more consistent against the AI.
  • AWD vs RWD. AWD conversion helps traction out of hairpins but adds weight. A well-tuned RWD setup is a strong alternative.
  • Avoid excess oversteer. You want predictable, neutral handling — the hairpin chain punishes any snap-oversteer moment.
  • Community tune: Share code 302 087 287 — an AWD road racing setup widely recommended for the GR86 on this route.

For more B-class recommendations beyond the GR86, see the Best Cars by Class guide.

    How to Win

Nanamagari's back-to-back hairpins punish late braking and wide exits. The AI will exploit any mistake immediately.

    Tips:

  • Brake early and trail-brake through the apex. You lose more time from a missed braking point than from going slightly slower overall.
  • Hug the inside apex tightly. The road is narrow. Running wide onto the next corner entry costs far more time than a slow-but-clean exit.
  • Use the opening corner. Making hard contact with your opponent on the first hairpin forces them to a respawn checkpoint — effectively ending the race.
  • Lower AI difficulty if needed. Reducing difficulty slows the opponent through corners without affecting your rewards.
  • Ignore the temptation to drift. Grip laps Nanamagari faster every time.

  • Known Bug: GR86 Not Selectable

If the GR86 does not appear as an eligible car at the race start:

  • Your tune has pushed the car above B 600 PI — open the tuning menu and remove upgrades until the PI drops back into class.
  • Alternatively, buy a fresh GR86 from the Autoshow and leave it at stock tune.
  • If the issue persists after re-tuning, restart the game. This resolves the challenge tracking bug in most cases.

  • Rewards
