Forza Horizon 6 Speed Skills Guide
Speed Skills are one of the most rewarding skill types in Forza Horizon 6. Trigger them consistently and you'll bank Skill Points to unlock Car Mastery rewards — including five hidden exclusive cars that can't be bought anywhere.
What Are Speed Skills?
A Speed Skill triggers when you sustain a high speed for a few seconds without crashing. There are four tiers based on how fast you're going:
| Tier | Speed Required | Skill Points |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | 100 mph / 161 km/h | 100 pts |
| Great Speed | 150 mph / 241 km/h | 150 pts |
| Awesome Speed | 175 mph / 282 km/h | 250 pts |
| Ultimate Speed | 200 mph / 322 km/h | 1,000 pts |
The big jump: Ultimate Speed gives 4× the points of Awesome Speed. Hitting 200 mph consistently is where Speed Skill farming becomes seriously efficient.
Important: Speed Skills only unlock on A-Class and above. B-Class and below cannot earn them.
How Speed Skills Feed Into Rewards
Speed Skills add points to your Skill Chain — the combo meter at the top-left of your screen. When you bank a chain (by stopping or pressing the button), those points convert to Car Mastery Skill Points for whichever car you're driving.
Key numbers to know:
Best Cars for Speed Skills
For Ultimate Speed Skills (200 mph+), you need a car that can reach and hold that speed on a straight. Top picks:
Hennessey Venom F5 — tops out around 304 mph, making 200 mph trivial on any straight. Best overall choice for Ultimate Speed farming.
2021 Mercedes-AMG ONE — exceeds 200 mph and has a 7× Car Mastery multiplier (vs the default 5×), giving 40% more Skill Points per chain.
1998 Subaru Impreza 22B-STI (~86,000 CR) — slower top speed but has a 9× Car Mastery multiplier, the highest in the game. Pair with a top-speed tune for Great Speed or Awesome Speed farming.
General rule: For Ultimate Speed Skills, use an S2 or R-Class car tuned for top speed (low downforce, long gear ratios). Racing tune setups that prioritise cornering actually hurt you here.
Best Roads on the Japan Map
1. Wangan Bayshore Expressway — Tokyo Bay
The best road in the game for raw speed. The elevated highway running along Tokyo Bay has long uninterrupted straights perfect for 200 mph+ runs. Multiple Ultimate Speed Skills per pass.
2. Shimanoyama to Nangan Stretch
The highway corridor connecting the north-central and south-western regions is the most-recommended route in guides. Long, wide, minimal sharp corners. Ideal for chaining Speed Skills back-to-back.
3. Minamino Region Highways
The flattest region on the map with the widest open roads. Great for holding speed and building a chain with other skill types alongside Speed Skills.
Tip: Rather than racing, just drive freely along the highway in free roam. Every time you hit the speed threshold again you get another trigger, so one highway run can net 5–10 Speed Skills in a single chain.
Car Mastery Hidden Cars — Why Speed Skills Matter
Five cars have a secret reward at the end of their Car Mastery tree — cars you cannot buy in the Autoshow. Speed Skills are the fastest way to earn the Skill Points needed to unlock them:
| Car to Buy | Hidden Reward |
|---|---|
| 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray (~65,000 CR) | 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 427 |
| 1995 Ferrari F50 | 1996 Ferrari F50 GT |
| 1994 Ford Supervan 3 (~250,000 CR) | 2022 Ford Supervan 4 |
| 2023 Honda Civic Type R | 1974 Honda Civic RS |
| 2014 Porsche 918 Spyder (~2,300,000 CR) | 2003 Porsche Carrera GT |
Buy the base car → farm Speed Skills → unlock Car Mastery nodes → claim the hidden car.
